Leasing requirements for Queenstown holiday homes

Before letting your property on a short term basis you need to meet the council regulatory requirements. That means registering your property for short term accommodation. It may already be registered (we can check this for you or you are welcome to do it yourself).

Registration is different depending on if you are intending to let for more than 90 days and if your property is stand-alone, duplex or part of a larger complex.

Tick - Queenstown vacation homesStand-alone/duplex renting for less than 90 days:
You can apply to be a registered holiday home which will give you the ability to let up to 90 days with a minimum stay of three nights.

Stand-alone/duplex renting for more than 90 days:
Resource consent is required, which will allow you to rent for up to 365 days a year with no minimum period.

Part of larger complex:
Resource consent is required, which will allow you to rent for up to 365 days a year with no minimum period.

Both forms of registration will result in a rate increase, generally of 25% but ranging up to 50% for 365 day stay resource consent depending on size.

We can advise on this and provide you with the necessary form.
